Husky Laundromat Fire

Bloomsburg firemen were called to the Husky Corner's laundromat on East Street... near Main Wednesday afternoon. The alarm went in around 3:45 PM after someone discovered a clothes dryer on fire... so says Fire Chief Bob Rupp. Fire apparatus was sent to the scene, but merely for ventilating the heavy smoke from the laundromat portion of the building.

 

Sandusky Charges

Ex-Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was arrested and arraigned Wednesday on new sex abuse charges brought by two new accusers. One of the men claims Sandusky molested him numerous times in a basement bedroom. The claims bring the number of Sandusky's alleged victims to 10 and he now faces more than 50 charges stemming from accusations he molested boys for years on Penn State property... in his home and elsewhere.

 

Home Invasion Arrest

A Penn State Schuylkill student has been arrested in connection with a weekend home invasion where three other students were beaten and robbed. Police say 18 – year old Christopher Cheese of Philadelphia was among a six people who were allegedly involved in the beatings in off – campus housing. Three of the students had to be life flighted to an Allentown hospital. Meantime... an arrest warrant has been issued for a second student.

 

Public Safety Firing

Northumberland County has a new “acting” director of Public Safety. Jerome Alex replaces Steve Reiner... who was told Tuesday morning he was fired. Reiner's “Box Walk” comes only two months after he was appointed as the permanent director of the department. He calls his firing nothing more than political on the part of commissioners Vinny Clausi and Merle Phillips. However, the county says it wants to move in a new direction.

 

Fabridam Repair

It may be a short boating and recreation season on the Susquehanna River near Sunbury this coming summer. State DNR officials say several bags of the Fabridam will be deflated around mid – August so heavy equipment can be brought in and the repair work can begin. When inflated... the dam forms Lake Augusta... providing summer recreation to thousands of people. The repair should take about 6 weeks to complete.
