Berwick United Way

The Berwick United Way has nearly reached its goal. It's now just $4,000 dollars short of its $400,000 goal. CEO Joy McGuinnis says major contributions have come in from Pennsylvania Power and Light.... and a golf tournament they held recently in which the utility raised $67,000. However, Ms. McGinnis says there is still time to donate by visiting their office at Second and Pine Streets... or dropping a check in the mail.


Parade of Lights

The WHLM Parade of Lights may be over for the 2011 holiday season... but the glow remains. Bloomsburg University Athletic Director Mike McFarland was one of three judges for the event... telling Joe on the Monday edition of the Morning Buzz that seeing it for the first time was amazing.  The grand prize float winner went to the Raup Family Holiday Rock 'n' Roll Stage show. They win the $1,000 grand prize. Second place went to the Bloomsburg Diner... grabbing the $500 prize.... with third place and the $250 dollar prize going to the Downtown Bloomsburg Merchants Association.


Holiday Party

'Tis the season.... and with it comes the office party. Getting drunk at the office holiday party can leave you with more than a hangover--- it could permanently damage your reputation. Dr. Paul Hokemeyer, an addictions therapist, says a Harris survey this fall found people are witnessing inappropriate behavior at holiday parties. Dr. Hokemyer cautions moderate drinkers to limit their intake to no more than two.... and not back to back.


Car Vs. Deer

Monday was the first day of deer season across Pennsylvania... and on Interstate 80 near Lightstreet and two woman got the surprise of her life when a deer jumped across the highway crashing into the car's windshield. State Police at Bloomsburg telling us 64 – year old Maureen Probst of Lock Haven was westbound when a deer jumped in front of her BMW. Probst and 69 – year old Sarah Gilbert were slightly injured by flying glass. Both were transported to the Bloomsburg Hospital for treatment.


Megan's Law Violation

State Police at Bloomsburg have taken a 42 – year old man into custody for allegedly violating Megan's Law. Police telling us Robert Babb, Junior moved into his girlfriend's home in the 12 – hundred block of Orange Street. His problem... he didn't tell authorities. Babb was jailed over the weekend on $10,000 bail. He makes a preliminary hearing before District Justice Richard Knecht on Thursday.


Powerball Winner

A Luzerne County man has claimed his $37.6 – million windfall from playing a Powerball ticket on November 19th. Lottery officials handing Steven Lloyd of Harding a ceremonial check in front of the Turkey Hill Store in Exeter. Lloyd deciding to take a lump sum payment.



A 31 – year old Freeland man has pleaded no contest to third degree murder in the shooting death of a Shenandoah man back in March of 2010. Damon Ennett made his plea just prior to jury selection taking place in Schuykill County in his murder trial. He was sentenced to 13 to 27 – years in prison for the murder... burglary and assault in the death of 24 – year old Bruce Forker.


Obama Visit

With President Obama due in Scranton on Wednesday.... people lined up outside Scranton High School on Monday... hoping they'd get a ticket to see the President. Mr. Obama is expected to talk to about 400 people around 2:30 Wednesday afternoon about his jobs... and payroll tax cut plan. Pennsylvania is considered a swing – state in Mr. Obama's re-election plans... and it's believed he'll spend a lot of time campaigning in the Keystone state in 2012.


Fire Shuts Down Business

Business is back up and running this morning... after a fire forced the evacuation of Michael's Arts and Crafts Distribution Center in the Humboldt Industrial Park... in East Union Township in Luzerne County. A fire in a cardboard bailer was extinguished quickly after firemen had to dig through the bailed material. Hazle Township firemen were assisted by crews from Sheppton – Oneida and the Ringtown Fire Company.


New Flights

Delta Airlines says it's adding a flight... and upgrading another from the Wilkes – Barre / Scranton International Airport in Avoca. An airport official says Delta will upgrade an Avoca to Atlanta flight from a 50 to a 65 passenger regional jet. In the first quarter of 2012... Delta will add a fourth flight from Wilkes – Barre / Scranton to Detroit. The Motor City has become an important part to Delta's worldwide system.


In WHLM Sports

The Bloomsburg University Men's and Women's basketball teams are on top of the world after winning Monday night. The women defeated Lincoln University 85 to 63. Dana Wieller scored her 1,000th career point. The men outscored Penn State Hazleton to win 87 to 41. Both teams now go 5 and 1 on the season. Both Bloomsburg University basketball teams will be on the road for two games this weekend. The Huskies play at IUP on Saturday afternoon and California on Sunday. Both doubleheaders start with the women's game at 1 o'clock.


Monday Night Football

In the NFL Monday night football game... the New Orleans Saints blew by the New York Giants 49 – 24.
