The Meadows Community Center in Danville is hosting world COPD day today from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. COPD stands for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, and is a common form of lung disease. The event today includes education about the disease, a guest speaker, vendors, and refreshments. The Meadows are located on the grounds of Maria Joseph Manor off Route 11 in Danville.
Free Flu Vaccines
The Columbia County Clinic in conjunction with the Department of Health will offer free flu vaccines Thursday from 9:00 to 11:00 am. The Vaccines are open to the general public. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are also welcome. Please call 752-1780.
Heroin, cocaine, marijuana, and prescription pain pills...that's what reports say led to a major drug bust of more than 100 people in Northumberland and Montour Counties. WNEP News reports that the Northumberland-Montour Drug Task Force filed the drug possession and drug dealing charges on Tuesday following a major investigation.
Penn State Gets Ready
Penn State's interim football coach has been busy preparing for the Ohio State game, as the school deals with the child sexual abuse scandal involving a former assistant coach. Tom Bradley says he is trying to keep the players as informed as possible, and playing an away game will give them more time together. Bradley says the players will do something special before the coin toss at Ohio State, but he's left it up to the team. Last Saturday the team came out for unity, the victims and Penn State...Bradley says the signified what they were all about.
Single Mothers Individually Living Empowered...or S.M.I.L.E for short. It's a group that meets weekly in Berwick at the New Covenant Christian Center. Founder Vicki Berlin says the group is there to help single mothers in our community. Berlin says she wanted to do something in our community and saw a need for support of single mothers after seeing many suicides. Turn The Page
When Amelia Blackledge said she wanted to replace books that local children lost in the flood she wasn't kidding. She organized the Turn the Page book drive, and with the help of thousands of donations there is now a location open at the Columbia Mall with free books for local children. The books were originally given out to only children affected by the flooding, but now the books are available for all children ages pre-k to teen. The location at the mall has moved next to Victoria Secret, and is open Thursdays and Fridays from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Saturdays from 1:00 to 7:00 PM and Sundays from 1:00 to 5:00 PM now through December 10th.
WHLM Sports: BU Basketball
College basketball returned to the Nelson Field House Wednesday night as The Bloomsburg University Huskies took on Philadelphia's University of the Sciences. WHLM Sports: Berwick Bulldogs
Berwick has won 9 Eastern Conference football championships. This Friday at Crispin Field, the Bulldogs will try for the school's 10th title when they take on Southern Lehigh in the Eastern Conference Division 3 Championship game. The game kicks off at 7:00 pm. You can hear it on Classic Rock 103.5. The coverage begins at 6:00 pm with the Coach Campbell Show.
