Penn State / Corbett
Governor Tom Corbett made the rounds of the Sunday morning TV shows. On NBC's Meet the Press... the governor was asked about then graduate assistant Mike McQueary... who spotted Defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky allegedly sexually assaulting a boy in the shower nine years ago... and should he have done more than just report it up the chain of command. McQueary's future as an assistant coach for the Nittany Lions is up in the air and will ultimately be decided by the university's board of trustees... of which Corbett is a member.
Flood victims from across the region still need our help as they continue to recover from the floods of September. Monday... for example... AGAPE spokesperson Kathy Lowe says there is a clothing giveaway for folks who need a little something to get through the winter. It starts at 10 O'clock at AGAPE headquarters on 7th Street. Meantime... AGAPE will take applications through the end of the month for flood victims who want to get a portion of the $189,000 the organization is handing out.
However, you need to fill out an application... and you can get one at AGAPE headquarters on 7th Street or at the WHLM Stations... on East Main Street in Bloomsburg.

Many times the wheels of progress turn slowly. Take for example... after the '06 flood... State Representative David Millard of Mt. Pleasant Township requested a million dollars for flood mitigation along Fishing Creek... a grant given to the area late last year by then - Governor Rendell. Meantime.... Representative Millard has gone on record for a flood wall as protection around the west end of Bloomsburg.
If you thought the elections for 2011 ended at midnight last Tuesday.... you're mistaken. In Columbia County.... the counting of some returns continues Monday... but they should only effect the outcome of the final numbers... and not the candidate who won the particular office... so says chief Registrar Matt Rapasky.
Residents of Bloomsburg were roused from their sleep shortly after 1:15 Sunday morning. The fire department's siren went off. Firemen were back in quarters within a half hour. Cops continued their patrol of the town.
A Mahony Township woman... south of Hazleton... is recovering from burns she sustained over the weekend when her home caught fire. Bertha Wargo was treated at the scene... and eventually airlifted to the Leigh Valley Hospital in Allentown where she is being treated for burns on her face and hands. Authorities say the fire was accidental... with it's origin at the rear of the building.
Trash which caught fire in a receptacle in a 7th flood bathroom of the Minsec building in Hazleton Saturday night prompted Hazleton firemen to check it out. The smoke forced the evacuation of the building... while firemen extinguished the smoldering remains. No one was injured... it's not known how the fire at the Minsec building began.
A Middleburg man is in the Snyder County jail after shoving another man out of his car.
