Winter Storm Warning
All of us in Columbia, Montour and Luzerne County are bracing for the first snow storm of the season... coming during the last weekend of October. The National Weather Service in State College has issued a winter storm warning for central and eastern Pennsylvania where we could see anywhere from five to ten inches starting early morning Saturday.... and falling through Saturday night. The storm formed in the southeast and will move up the east coast during the day.... with the storm warning expiring Saturday night.
Firefighters from five townships and boroughs spent the overnight battling a two alarm fire at a former shoe factory in Mocanaqua... in Luzerne County. Shickshinny, Mocanaqua and Newport Township firemen were initially called to the scene at Pond Hill Road and Kennedy Street around 11:35 Friday night.... but the first officers on the scene escalated the fire to a two alarm blaze. They eventually needed help from Hunlock Creek and the Berwick Fire Department. A fire marshal will be called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire at the old shoe factory in Mocanaqua.
The St. Louis Cardinals have won MLB's World Series Friday night... as they defeated the Texas Rangers 6 to 2 in Game 7. The cards got a key hit by hometown star David Freese... and six innings of pitching from Chris Carpenter. It is the Cardinal's 11th World Series crown.
In High School Football heard on WHLM AM Friday night, Bloomsburg defeated Danville 28-16. On 103.5 WHLM-FM Berwick beat Coughlin in thir homecoming game 26-21. In other local action Friday night it was Mt. Carmel over Southern Columbia 22-21 and Central Columbia over Warrior Run 35-7.
In college ball Saturday evening, the Huskies of BU slid their way to an unprecedented 24-21 loss to CW Post. Bloomsburg drops from being undefeated to 8-1 on the season so far.
