There is a new... fresh set of stories from last month's flood being produced by Bloomsburg High School Students. Brandon Conrad and his associates are talking to people who had to deal with the stresses of the rising water on an hourly basis. The group stopped by the studio's of WHLM on Wednesday... to video tape the radio station's story. Conrad said documenting the event is important. The series of interviews will soon be published on the internet.
Time is running short to seek assistance from FEMA or a loan from the Small Business Administration after a visit from Hurricane Irene or Tropical Storm Lee. Suzanne Solomon says people need to by November 14th to be eligible for help in the 28 disaster declared counties that include Columbia... and Montour. For FEMA assistance you can go on – line to register at www.disasterassistance.gov... calling the agency at 1-800-621-FEMA... or stop by the Disaster Recovery Center in the 700 block of Sawmill Road near Lightstreet.
A major meeting on tap Monday in Danville... as representatives of FEMA and the Small Business Administration discuss what federal disaster assistance is available. The meeting begins at 9 AM at the Danville City Hall. The session occurs two weeks before the deadline comes to an end to apply for assistance.
The mission of the Disaster Recovery Center in Schuylkill and Snyder counties is just about over. As a matter of fact... they'll be closing their doors for good this Friday. The DRC's... such as the one on Sawmill Road near Lightstreet... were opened days after the water receded from last month's floods. The center in Schuylkill County at the Pine Grove fire hall.... and that in the Career Link Center in Selinsgrove in Snyder County... will remain open from 10 AM through 7 PM.... until Friday.
PennDOT says a contract has been awarded to Wolyniec Construction of Williamsport for flood repair to two roads in Montour and Northumberland Counties. The agency's Rick Mason says both locations involve large drainage pipe replacement on Ridge Drive in Montour County.... and on Irish Valley Road in Northumberland County. The pipes were heavily damaged due to run off from September flooding. The $274,000 contract is scheduled to be completed by early December.
The Town of Bloomsburg is expected to be fairly crowded this weekend. Families of Bloomsburg University students will get to sample campus life during this year’s annual Parents’ Weekend. The weekend begins at midday Friday... and runs through Sunday. The weekend’s events will include athletic events, professional entertainment and recreational opportunities.
Police say they're continuing an investigation into the break in of the Dushore Pharmacy in neighboring Sullivan County. One thing police have is surveillance video. They say... what appears to be two men in hoodies... broke into the store early Tuesday morning. The owner of the store completing an inventory of the prescription drugs to see what was stolen at the Dushore Pharmacy in Sullivan County
How safe is treated drilling water?? Not very.... so says a published report. Jason Conrad.... a former Marcellus Shale field worker near Dimmock... in Susquehanna County... was found guilty this week by a district justice on a disorderly conduct charge after he placed used drilling water in a glass container. Another worker came along... and although the jar was labeled “do not use...” that worker grabbed the container and proceeded to make a pot of coffee. The unnamed worker became ill with intestinal problems.
