If you're one the many victims of the September floods... and still trying to get back on your feet... faith – based AGAPE of Bloomsburg is a resource you can turn to. The organization's Kathy Lowe tells us they're taking applications for assistance. You can pick up an application at AGAPE headquarters on 7th Street in Bloomsburg Monday and Tuesday... as well as Thursday through Saturday.
Faith – based AGAPE of Bloomsburg has received a donation of nearly $17,000 Saturday from the so – called Mini-Fair set up in the Renco Ace Hardware parking lot after the cancellation of the 157th annual Bloomsburg Fair. At least 7 vendors set up shop... and customers contributions made the donation possible.
A 19 – year old volunteer EMT and Fireman from the Benton area is charged with impersonating a public servant... after he allegedly pulled over three women with his car... equipped with emergency lights. State Police at Bloomsburg say Christopher Warnig allegedly initiated at least three night time traffic stops using his VW Jetta... equipped with red and blue lights. He would approach the women wearing a blue EMT – style uniform. Police believe say there may be more victims who have not yet called authorities.
The state Senate has approved changes to Pennsylvania's Juvenile Justice Act. State Senator Stewart Greenleaf says his bill is a direct response to the “Kids for Cash” scandal in neighboring Luzerne County.... calling confinement as a last resort.
PennDOT has a mystery on their hands. The agency's Rick Mason says someone is stealing inlet cover grates along Bottle Drive in Ralpho Township.... near Paxinos in Northumberland County. Mason tells us each grate costs anywhere from $150 to $240 to replace.
Not enough time to destroy sensitive records. The Hazleton Standard Speaker is reporting that a former officer of the now – defunct Hazleton Community Ambulance Association failed to shred records found in a dumpster over the weekend behind the Southside fire station on Broad Street. Joseph Kotansky said he usually shred the records... but failed to do so for papers from 2003 and 2004... when he ran out of time. Those records contain ambulance runs and patient information... as well as social security numbers.
State Police are investigating an all – terrain vehicle crash which took place in Carbon County Sunday afternoon. Police say 40 – year old Robert Kemmerer of Jim Thorpe died when his ATV went off the road near Buttonwood and North Sycamore Drives in Penn Forrest Township. A rider on the ATV.. 39 – year old Rebecca Cohen – Kemmerer was injured and flown to a Bethlehem hospital for treatment.
Hazle Twp Crash
A Hazle Township woman... in Luzerne County... is being treated at the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown after she was struck by a car in her front yard late last week. 63 – year old Mary Ellen Stish remains in critical condition. The driver of the car was trying to avoid an accident in front of her... when she lost control of her car... striking Stish.
Fisherdale Road School Demo
Circle November 6th on you're calendar. The Roaring Creek and Catawissa Valley Historical Study Group will be having an open house and cider press demonstration at 123 Fisherdale Road near Elysburg. It starts at 2 PM. The group acquired the one room Fisherdale school house in 2009. The open house is to show the work the group has completed, will have short talks and demonstrations during this time.
