AGAPE is still looking for help to clean up homes that were damaged by the flood. They have teams going out everyday, Monday through Saturday at 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, and on Sundays at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Please wear long pants, and boots. If you have your own protection gear, please bring that too, or they can supply it. Meet at the AGAPE building located on East 7th Street in Bloomsburg.
The Northern Columbia Community and Cultural Center will hold a free tetanus shot clinic provided by AGAPE today from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The clinic is for all residents in Columbia County who have been affected by the flood and have a FEMA number. You’ll need to bring your number and a form of identification. The center is located in Benton.
Turn the Page Book Drive will benefit all children and teens who have lost their books due to flooding in Columbia County. New or gently used books for ages pre-K to teen are being collected at all First Columbia Bank branches until October 1st, the Bloomsburg Public Library, the WHLM Studios, the gazebo at the Columbia Mall, and Wal-Mart until the 14th. The goal of collecting 5,000 books will help replace those lost by local teens, children, preschools and daycares.
The Montour Delong Fairgrounds will host an all you can eat haddock fish dinner tonight from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. Dinners are $12.00 for you, half price for your children ages 6-12. Take outs will be available, any active military people dressed in uniform will eat their dinner free.
St. Michael’s Church in Shenandoah is hosting a Chinese auction tomorrow. Doors open at noon and games start at 1:30 PM. Admission is $3.00.
Wesley United Methodist Church invites you out for Songs of the Civil War and Stories They Tell with narration by George A Turner and music by the Bicentennial Choir tomorrow at 7:00 pm. The program was originally scheduled to happen at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds, but has been moved to the church. The church is located at the corner of Market and 3rd Streets in Bloomsburg.
Emmanuel Bible Chapel is hosting a blood drive on Monday from 2:00 to 7:00 PM. They’re located on Kachinka Hollow Road in Berwick.
In week 4 of High School football action Friday night, on Newsradio 930 Southern Columbia shut out Central Coulmbia 40-0. On WHLM-FM Berwick fought a losing battle against rival Wyoming Valley West, the final 46-22 for WVW. IN other local games Danville fell to Mifflinburg 24-0 and Bloomsburg beat Milton 35-14.
