Thunderstorms and rain rolled through Columbia and Montour Counties overnight.
If PPL crews didn't do enough last week... they were called out to restore power to sections of the area... especially Briar Creek Township near Berwick. There were reports of power outages around the 500 block of Martzville Road... Cemetery Road as well as near the Evansville recreation area. That power was restored overnight... but according to PPL's outage map on the web, other trouble spots are in Pine, North Centre and Main Townships.
PennDOT says starting Tuesday... there will be a short term driving lane closure for Interstate 80 westbound from mile marker 223 to 221. The agency's Rick Mason says the closure is expected to be in effect through Friday afternoon.
A week after Hurricane Irene visited the northeast U.S.... the America Red Cross is still out in the field doing whatever they need to do to provide relief. Deanna Hollenbach of the Danville Chapter says more than 4,000 Red Cross workers continue to operate shelters in eight states... serving meals... hand out relief supplies and offer emotional support as people affected by the storm begin to recover. Now... attention is turned to Katia now swirling in the Caribbean... with the National Hurricane Center placing it a couple of hundred miles of the US Mainland.
