Flash Flood Warning

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STATE COLLEGE PA HAS ISSUED A

 

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...

NORTH CENTRAL COLUMBIA COUNTY... SULLIVAN COUNTY... NORTHEASTERN LYCOMING COUNTY...

 

* UNTIL 500 PM EDT...

 

* AT 848 AM EDT...LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS REPORTED

THAT UPPER PORTIONS OF LOYALSOCK CREEK AND ITS TRIBUTARIES WERE

BEGINNING TO FLOOD. ABOUT 1 FOOT OF WATER WAS REPORTED COVERING

STREETS IN DUSHORE.

 

AN ADDITIONAL 1 TO 2 HOUR PERIOD OF HEAVY RAIN WILL OCCUR LATE

THIS MORNING...AND COULD CAUSE FURTHER FLOODING DOWNSTREAM.

FAIRMOUNT SPRINGS... KETTLE CREEK GORGE... LINCOLN FALLS... MUNCY VALLEY... RICKETTS GLEN STATE PARK... SHUNK... BARBOURS... BIGGERTOWN... HUGHESVILLE... LAIRDSVILLE... LOYALSOCKVILLE AND RALSTON.

FLOODING IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT. MOST FLOOD RELATED DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS WATER COVERED BRIDGES... DIPS... OR LOW WATER CROSSINGS. TURN AROUND...DON`T DROWN! NEVER TRY TO CROSS A FLOWING STREAM...EVEN A SMALL ONE...ON FOOT. TO ESCAPE RISING WATER MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND.

 

Hurricane Irene Update

The biggest storm to hit the east coast in years is now in New England.

Hurricane Irene has left down trees... power outages.... and lots of flooding in it's wake and there could be a lot of water to come. Now... authorities are assessing the mess. Allentown – based PPL says there are 203,837 subscribers are without power. In Columbia County... 5,231 locations don't have power. Most of the outages are in Sugarloaf... Benton and Fishing Creek Townships. Also effected is Benton and Sillwater Borough. 7 people have lost power in Montour County. In Luzerne County... 6,297 PPL subscribers are without power at midday. The hardest hit area in the PPL coverage area include Lancaster... Lehigh... Northampton... Cumberland as well as Dauphin.

 

Road Closures 
PennDOT advises drivers that state roads may be closed or restricted in north central Pa. because of flooding and/or downed trees and power lines caused by Hurricane Irene.

Here is the latest list of road closings in PennDOT Engineering District 3 which includes Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, Sullivan, Tioga, Union and Bradford counties:

** Columbia County
SR 42 between Millville Road/Iron Street intersection and Fairview Drive due to downed power lines;

SR 118 in Sugarloaf Township between Routes 487 and 239 (detour routes) due to downed power lines;

SR 487 between Savage Hollow Road and Pealertown Road due to downed power lines;
 

** Sullivan County
SR 87 at the twin bridges in Forksville, closed between Elk Creek Road in Hillsgrove Township and Forksville due to flooding;

SR 154 between Route 87 at Forksville and Route 220 at Laporte due to flooding at World's End State Park;

SR 220 between Route 42 at Muncy Valley and Route 87 at Dushore due to flooding at several locations;

SR 220 at the north end of Dushore Borough due to flooding;

SR 487 between Route 118 and Main Street in Lopez due to flooding at the bridge in Lopez.
 

** Snyder County
SR 235 between Route 522 and Route 35 due to downed utility lines;
